The A.T. Smith Project

FHFG Logo

The Friends of Historic Forest Grove recently purchased the A.T. Smith house and the 1.8 acres on which it sits. The house has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1971 and is located in Forest Grove, Oregon. The Friends are committed to saving and preserving the home and turning it into a museum and agricultural interpretive center.

Alvin Smith came to Oregon as a lay missionary and had been trained in his youth as a carpenter. In 1854, he built this fine two story house on his donation land claim. The graceful Greek Revival house was exceptionally well constructed and today, almost 150 years later, the house still stands. Few houses from Oregon's pre-statehood era survive as intact as the Alvin and Abigale Smith house does, and its historic rural setting is largely intact.
