The Friends of Historic Forest Grove is a 501(c)(3) public charity and was organized by enthusiastic individuals who recognized the distinct and important place Forest Grove has in the history of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Forest Grove has been an educational and economic center since its settlement in 1841.
The Friends of Historic Forest Grove operates totally on volunteer effort. Members work to document the history of the area, which is made available to the public for research purposes in the Forest Grove History Room. The resources are also used to prepare educational programs for classroom, civic and public presentations. Annual events include three public programs on topics of historic interest: a spring garden tour, an antique appraisal show and a historic house tour. Committees organize events throughout the year that serve both to enhance cultural awareness and raise funds to support the organization's activities, goals, etc.
The Friends of Historic Forest Grove and the Forest Grove Historic Landmarks Board have formed a joint committee and recently completed a 3-year project of compiling all four of Forest Grove's historic surveys into one database involving thousands of hours of volunteer time. This will soon be accessible at the Forest Grove City Library.
